2022 September 18 - Equinox: Analemma over the Callanish Stones

In today's image, we see an analemma over the Callanish Stones in northern Scotland. While the stones, dating back to the Bronze Age may or may not have astronomical significance, the analemma in the sky does. This is made by taking images of the Sun at the same time of day over the course of the year. The position of the Sun follows this pattern because of Earth's tilt on its axis and its variable speed along its elliptical orbit.
